Quicksprout University Review and Summary-How to Optimize Your Onsite SEO for Ecommerce Sites

I am going back to school to learn everything I can about SEO. I am a baby boomer not a millennial and I feel like Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School. If you are a millennial you need to see that movie it is a real classic.

The wonderful thing about the internet, which did not exist back in 1986 when Rodney Dangerfield stared in “Back to School” is that you can learn almost anything and you can learn almost anything for free. I have become completely financially independent working for myself from solely by learning online and I did it mainly for free.

College Education Costs Start At $100,000 But I Am Going Back To School With QuickSprout University For Free!

So know I am going back to school and learning from Neil Patel, who was born in 1985, the year before Back to School was made. He has been kind enough to create a free online university where he teaches online marketing and SEO.

The average cost of a college education averages between $100,00-$300,000 for a 4 year degree. You can learn skills online than can help you make 6 figure incomes at almost no expense to you from the privacy of your own home. I know because I have done this.

Want to Learn Something New? Read Authoritative Tutorials Then Summarize What You Learned In A Blog Post

If you really want to learn a subject I can suggest reading authoritative articles or tutorials on the subject the summarize the salient points in your own article. You can then add your own perspective. Then the information becomes “YOURS.” This is what I am doing with Neil Patel’s Quicksprout Univerity. So now let’s take a look at:

How to optimize your Onsite SEO for Your Ecommerce Site.

Start With Keyword Research Using Google Adwords Keyword Planner

Your first step begins with keyword research. Log into your Google Adwords account and click on Tools and Analysis then Keyword Planner. Then click on Search For Keywords and Ad Group Ideas. You can either input your landing page or your keywords where it says “your product or service.” Input your keywords. The goal is to get some ideas what your customers and typing in to the search engines when they look for your products.

Let’s Find Out What Your Customers Are Typing Into Google When Looking For Your Products

Google keywords planner defaults to Ad Group ideas. You do not want this. You want keyword ideas.  Say you were selling “coffee grinders.” Sometimes there can be a huge difference in keyword searches based on simply the plural or singular of the term. In this example “Coffee Grinder” is getting an average of 27,000 searches and Coffee Grinders is getting around 3000 searches. So it might be wise to focus on the plural term since it is getting by far more searches when you do your on page SEO.

You will generally rank for both plural and singular when you use your terms, however, if you focus on the most popular version in this case “coffee grinders” plural you will tend to rank better for the more popular term.

Let’s Check for Duplicate Title and Description Tags Using Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool

Next you want to check to make sure you do not have duplicate title or description tags on your site. In order to accomplish this task you would need to install the “Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool. You may download the tool from this page.

At the top of the program input your homepage url and click start. Let the program run and complete the report. The next step is to make sure you do not have any duplicated titles or descriptions on your ecommerce site. Click on the Page Titles tab then click on Duplicates. This will organize your pages to see if there are any duplicate title tags. Your goal is to make sure each page has unique titles. Then repeat the same process with Meta Descriptions.

Now We Need to See If There is Any Duplicate Content From Within Your Website Using Siteliner.com

Next you want to check if there is any duplicate content within your site. For this task we can use a site called Siteliner.com. The site will develop a report and has a field called “Match Percentage.” If you have a Match Percentage on one of your pages of 50% this means that this page’s content matches 50% of the content on another page. You then would need to edit this page and re-write the content with unique content because having duplicate content on your sites does not help you get your site ranked for your keywords.

You need to have unique content for each category and product. A little bit of duplicate content is ok maybe under 10%.

Next Let’s See if You Have Duplicate Content When Comparing To Other Websites Using Copyscape

Now we need to check to see if you are using duplicate content from other sites. This can be very common with ecommerce sites since you may be using standard manufacturers information. To check duplicate content on other sites you need to visit Copyscape.com. Input your site into Copyscape.com. If you find that you are using duplicate content from a manufacturer or other original source you would need to re-write the content on your page to be unique.

Now Let’s Optimize Your Images

Next we need to optimize your images. An properly optimized image will help you get listed in Google Images which is an excellent source of traffic. But optimizing your images also helps Google know what you page is all about and get it better indexed.

Right click on your image and click on view image info. The first aspect to notice is the image name. The image should be named with your keywords. Then you could also put your keywords under the alt text as well.

Matt

After a career as a professional musician and band leader in the Miami South Florida Area I decided to see if I could make some money with this new internet thing. After years of trial and error I started to get the hang of it and now I am completely financially independent because of my various online businesses. The goal of this blog is to chronicle my continued marketing experiences. I focus on real examples of what works and what does not work. Google does not give us a recipe for getting our sites ranked. We have to use our own experiences to see what actually works rather than theory. I hope you enjoy the blog. Please let us know what you think in the comments area. We appreciate your feedback.
