11 Habits of Successful Work at Home Entrepreneurs

1. Do the task you dread first! You need to do it anyway. So why spend all that time dreading? Go right at that dreaded project first thing! You will feel so much better about yourself and the day. Plus this will give you the much sought after “momentum.”

2. Visualize. Your imagination is very powerful. It actually helped create our universe. Use it to help create a better part of your universe by imagining the results of what you want to see. Imagine how it will feel to accomplish your goal. Hold on to that feeling. Now you are ready.

3. Get rid of clutter. Get rid of mental clutter but also physical clutter. Is there a project that you are holding on to that you know in your heart just will not work? Dump it. Cut your losses and focus on the winning projects.

4. Don’t dwell on past failures. Boldly and cheerfully pursue your success despite past failures. You know that project that you just dumped that you spent a lot of time on and it did not work out? Forget about it and the feeling of failure. Do not beat yourself up. I could write hundreds of blog posts about the failures of successful people. You can analyze but never criticize yourself. Attacking yourself will never propel you to future success. Lose the dead project and lose the feeling of failure and cheerfully proceed with “pluck” to your new visualized horizons.

5. Find out when your most productive time is and make that sacred. I am a morning person. My wife can write poetry all night. Make sure the people in your household know and respect that you are working during this time. If those around you interrupt you during work time ask them nicely to respect this special time for you.

6. Get your Pluck on. I am kind of amazed when I look at some successful blogs. The writing really is not that great. It is ok but nothing really to “write home about.” But the successful bloggers, business people and work at home folks all have one thing in common. They have “Pluck.”  One of the meanings of “Pluck” is spirited and determined courage. They just relentlessly keep at it no matter what the set back. They just put their head down and keep doing with a happy and optimistic heart.

7. Call a shot. I learned a trick as a band leader. The worst thing you can do as a band leader is to ask the other musicians what they want to play. If you do so your are dead in the water.Everybody will start discussing what they want to play and the band comes to a halt and the dance floor empties. Every time. As a bandleader I learned that I had to make a decision even if it was not 100% the correct one. I always made a decision as to what song to play on the fly and boldly (dance bands cannot play from a set list you have to feel the crowd and choose songs on the fly.) I did not always call the perfect song but a so so decision in this arena is better than “dead air” anytime.

When you are siting down working and you are getting ADD trying to figure out what to do just choose one activity and do it. Even if it was not the perfect one. The focus and actual activity will get you back on track and being focused again even if it was not the perfect decision.

8. Be good to yourself. Are you hungry? Eat a little something healthy. Get some fresh air and some exercise. Take a moment and greet the day and remember to be grateful for what you have. Gratitude attracts abundance.

9. Be authentic and creative. I am not you and you are not me. Find what gets your creative juices going and pursue this line even if you do not see the results right away.

10. Do one task at a time. Do you have 10 browser windows open right now? Shut down all the browsers with projects you are not working on and just focus on the one at hand. The other projects will be there later. This will help you keep focused and you will also feel more calm.

11. When you start losing concentration and spacing out take a break. Rather than working with half a mind on  your project just say “cut” like a movie producer. Take a break. Do some jumping jacks if you are into that. Jump into the ocean. Go for a spin on your kayak or go fishing. There is no sense is not being all there mentally when you work. You will work more efficiently if you are fresh. Then come back at it at full force.

I hope you find these tips helpful. If you have others you would like to add please do so in the comments area. Wishing you all the most success.

After a career as a professional musician and band leader in the Miami South Florida Area I decided to see if I could make some money with this new internet thing. After years of trial and error I started to get the hang of it and now I am completely financially independent because of my various online businesses. The goal of this blog is to chronicle my continued marketing experiences. I focus on real examples of what works and what does not work. Google does not give us a recipe for getting our sites ranked. We have to use our own experiences to see what actually works rather than theory. I hope you enjoy the blog. Please let us know what you think in the comments area. We appreciate your feedback.
