email marketing

Maybe you have a blog and a deeply vested interest in seeing yourself succeed, maybe you have that great desire and passion to help others achieve their dreams through as many medium as you can…but you don’t have the big budget that most advertising companies have. You don’t have enough money to try, fail, try, fail, try and fail once again till you get the results you want. Of course, failure is inevitable and something we can’t do without in business, but why fail at what you do when you can easily succeed with little effort.

A great way to ensure your message is always being heard by your audience, ensure that you can constantly get in touch with those who really want to stay in touch and to ensure you are being seen as an instant expert is to give email marketing a try.

Email is currently the number one platform most people use to get in touch with friends, family and people they trust, and it is also the number one means of communications online. Of course, social media is the buzz these days but even social media sites require you to have an email before using their service. Why? They want to easily get in touch with you through the most convenient medium!

Email marketing is something I’ve been considering for my weight loss blog and I’ve learned quite a lot in the process. This article will be giving you insights into some of the most practical tips that can help you get the best from email marketing.

Be Personal, Not Corporate

I’ll be using as much examples as needed in this article, especially using my own site, so please bear with me.

People are tired of hearing from corporations these days for one simple reason…corporations have always exploited our trust as users and they always will. Most corporations only pretend to care but they hardly do and readers are well aware of this and as a result are leashing out their anger on anything that has a look or feel of a corporation.

What do you now do in a situation like this? Be Personal. It might not be the answer you want, but being personal helps a lot.

Being personal starts with how you communicate with your email subscribers; in other words, does your email send from your name or your website name? In the case of my weight loss blog my emails should be from John Smith instead of from WeightLossTriumph. Did you notice the difference?

Having a name creates an experience users can connect with, it lets them see you’re an actual person they can relate to and not just another robotic invention looking to scrape the money out of their pockets and it makes it easy for them to want to interact with you…and interaction, my friend, is key!

Be Professional to Distinguish Yourself and build on Subscribers’ Trust

Yes, I know I just told you not to be corporate above but I think there’s an actual difference between being corporate and professional. A professional email marketer is one who is able to learn how much influence the power of a great brand can have on a user, and who is ready to leverage this to his success. In other words, what does your brand stand for and how do your reader relate to it?

Personally, I believe every single communication with your readers should be an opportunity to remind them of your brand and create an interaction. In other words, your Twitter profile should remind them of your brand, your email should remind them of your brand and your actions should have something associated with your brand.

A great way to easily do this is to have an email template. In other words, don’t just have a generic/random template like most email marketing service providers provide you with, instead, go for something different and unique that can be related to your brand.

Your email design should be able to remind your subscribers of the colors of your website, its look and feel and other basic elements that it embodies. That way, every single email you send will be a new experience for your readers and more results for you.

Happily Embrace Unsubscribe Rates…In Fact, Make it Easy

I’m not saying you should provoke it, I’m saying you should embrace it.

Somebody I really respect in regards to this is Ben Settle, an expert email marketer everyone should follow. He is always emphasizing the importance of embracing unsubscribes instead of disdaining it. In other words, when someone unsubscribes from your list when you did absolutely nothing to provoke it jump up and dance for the following reasons.

1. It Saves You Money: Most of us use email service providers like AWeber that charge you based on the number of people that are on your list. Having people who don’t matter to your overall goal will save you money because you won’t have to pay for their space on your list.

2. It Saves You Time: Consider how much time you will have otherwise spent dealing with and thinking about that negative subscriber who shouldn’t be on your list in the first place. Imagine how much “mental time” not emailing that person will save you. Having a reader unsubscribe is better than dealing with her negativity and that will also ensure you can focus on other things that matter.

3. It Saves You Energy: Imagine all the energy that will have been otherwise spent dealing with the negativity of someone who probably never wanted to receive emails from you. Imagine how much it can influence your overall self-esteem or even your desire to email other subscribers. You might be feeling you have done something wrong when you haven’t and embracing unsubscribes saves you from this pressure.

In fact, if a particular of your subscriber is too negative and disturbing make sure you unsubscribe the fellow yourself. Mind you, I’m not saying you should ignore all feedback from readers. Consider all feedback with care and openness and make sure you only unsubscribe the disturbing ones.

After a career as a professional musician and band leader in the Miami South Florida Area I decided to see if I could make some money with this new internet thing. After years of trial and error I started to get the hang of it and now I am completely financially independent because of my various online businesses. The goal of this blog is to chronicle my continued marketing experiences. I focus on real examples of what works and what does not work. Google does not give us a recipe for getting our sites ranked. We have to use our own experiences to see what actually works rather than theory. I hope you enjoy the blog. Please let us know what you think in the comments area. We appreciate your feedback.
