6 Reasons for Considering Information Marketing as Your Business Model

information-marketing

There are many business models out there. Most of them are competitive and some even require legal advice before your begin selling. If you are looking for a business model that requires little time and management commitment, except for the initial creation of the product, then information marketing is certainly worth considering.

What is Information Marketing?

Any digital product can be considered to be information marketing. It can be an eBook, software, content from your site, images, videos etc. That being said let us discuss the five reasons as to why you should consider information marketing as your business model.

#1 Easy to create

Yes, digital products are easier to create when compared to other products. If you are knowledgeable in a certain field then you can easily create an information product. For example, let us assume that you are passionate about ‘Fishing’ and you are planning to write about it. As you already know the subject intimately  you are quite qualified to write an eBook about Fishing. Hopefully you will bring your own special angle or vision to the topic.  With little effort you can complete the book within a few months time or faster.

#2 You only need to create the product once

Unlike creating products for each customer in the traditional market, you will have to create the product just once unless you later want to add updates to your info product. That’s the beauty of information marketing. Let us take an example from the eBook about ‘Fishing’. Once you have a copy of your book, you can send it to as many buyers as you want without ever worrying about running out of copies.

#3 No package and transportation charges

Here comes another astounding reason for considering information marketing. How much do you think it is going to cost you for the shipping of the product? The answer is that it is going to cost you $0 (excluding the cost of your internet connection). Irrespective of where you are located you will have the ease of transporting the product right into the inbox of your buyers within seconds. As soon as your product is purchased you will have to send a link to the buyer which will allow them to download the product. Interestingly this work can be automated saving time for you and for your customers.

#4 Zero maintenance

When it comes to creating a product the main goal of the manufacturer is to create a product with zero maintenance. From your washing machine to the multi-cylinder engines, all are created with the aim of zero maintenance because it saves money. However, information marketing comes out way ahead when we talk about product maintenance. It doesn’t require maintenance though you will need to revise the eBook every year as new information comes out about your topic. Then again revising an eBook or upgrading software is not going to cost you much time or money. The product is already there and all you need to do is polish a bit.

#5 Hard to imitate

Last month I went to purchase a smartphone. I was looking around various models when suddenly one grabbed my attention. The mobile phone I saw looked just like the BlackBerry’s Bold model but had a different brand name on it (I forgot the name). All the features were the same except for the fact that it was lower in quality and the body was fragile. The shocking part came when I saw the price tag. It was sold only for $50 (It was mad in China). I was amazed at how easily the product was knocked off.

On the other hand when it comes to Information Marketing, imitation is more difficult. For example, let us consider that you have written a book on ‘Fishing’. To imitate the book and produce as their own a person will need patience and persistence as the product should be consumed first and later produced as a different version. In most of the cases their attempt to imitate will prove futile as only a knowledgeable person can produce such content.

#6 Less or no initial capital

Finally, you do not need thousands of dollars to invest in creating the product. Just a few hundred dollars (zero investment in most of the cases) will do the trick. How much does an author have to spend for an eBook? Not even a dime except for the cover design that is required in the final stage of product creation. This reason should be enough for anyone to consider Information Marketing.

Conclusion:

As you can see from all the reasons listed above Information Marketing is a highly attractive business model. You are the boss and rarely will you require an assistant.

After a career as a professional musician and band leader in the Miami South Florida Area I decided to see if I could make some money with this new internet thing. After years of trial and error I started to get the hang of it and now I am completely financially independent because of my various online businesses. The goal of this blog is to chronicle my continued marketing experiences. I focus on real examples of what works and what does not work. Google does not give us a recipe for getting our sites ranked. We have to use our own experiences to see what actually works rather than theory. I hope you enjoy the blog. Please let us know what you think in the comments area. We appreciate your feedback.
