How To Submit Your Local Business To Yahoo Local

I already discussed claiming your Google Places page here. If you want even more people to find your local business you should get listed with Yahoo Local as well.

Step 1. Go to Yahoo.com and sign up for an account if you do not already have one. Get started here Just click the link at the top of the page which says sign up.

Step 2. Next you need to sign in to your new Yahoo account. Just go to Yahoo.com and click the link which says sign in.

Step 3. Now go to the Yahoo Local page and sign up there while you are already signed in to your Yahoo account. Here is the page to register fro Yahoo Local: http://listings.local.yahoo.com/ Fill out all the information in the listing area as completely and accurately as possible. Include some keywords that you think people would use to find your business. Take your time to fill out everything. The more complete listings get the higher search engine rankings usually.

Step 4. Under contact information put the name, address and phone number of the person responsible for the advertising for the business. Most likely you. It is best to use the same exact name, address and phone on all your local listings. This helps the search engines betters aggregate different mentions from different sources about your business. The more mentions you have the higher your local listings rank across all platforms.

Step 5. Set up the local information for your business. Again try to use the same info here that you are using with Google Places and other local listings. Better to use a local phone number here rather than an 800 number. Remember the search engines are trying to help people find local businesses with these listings. The more local the better.

Remember to check automatically send me reviews of my business to make sure you get any reviews that are written about you on Yahoo Local. The more reviews you have the better your local listing ranks usually.

Step 6. Enter your hours of operation.

Step 7. Enter your accepted payment methods. The information you give about your business the better.

Step 8. Enter any additional information about your business such as languages spoken, different brand name or products, or special services your offer.

Step 9: Step-By-Step Preview. Click Listing Page and Details Page to view how the listing will appear.

Step 10: Review and continue. After you have had a chance to review your work double check everything especially the address and phone numbers. If your contact info is not correct you could be sending your customers to the wrong place. Click on your website links to make sure they are live as well.

Step 12: Category Selection. This is really important. These categories are words people will use when searching for your business locally. You have just five categories and the first one will be your primary category. You can choose from the drop down menu or by clicking on need suggestions. Spend some time on this. Hopefully this listing will be up for awhile and it represents you and your business. Again, the more complete profiles for both Google and Yahoo the higher your will rank for local searches.

Step 13: Step-by-Step Preview and Continue. After you have found the most suitable categories review the listing by clicking the listing page and details page. If everything is correct click continue.

Step 14: The Preview page. This is your last opportunity to make sure the info is accurate. When you are done reviewing click submit.

Yahoo Local Enhanced Listings costs $9.95 per month per location and gives you the additional feature of uploading pictures, logo and to have an even more detailed description of your business. It might be worth it to get the extra traffic by having your business at the top of Yahoo Local. There is more traffic at Google but still there is quite a bit with Yahoo and less competition. You can always do both.

Step 15: Verification and Terms of Service. At the Verification and Terms of Service page enter the code, read the terms of service, and then click I Agree at the bottom.

Email confirmation. If your listing was accepted you will get a confirmation email with a link where you can edit your page if you still wish to do so.

I am going to be writing more about local marketing and especially how to optimize your local business listings. Please subscribe by email and/or RSS feed, comment and share with your favorite social media if you found this article helpful.

If the listing was successfully posted to Yahoo! Local, they will send a confirmation email. It will indicate the status (Congratulations!) and provide a link to edit it if you would like to improve the listing.

After a career as a professional musician and band leader in the Miami South Florida Area I decided to see if I could make some money with this new internet thing. After years of trial and error I started to get the hang of it and now I am completely financially independent because of my various online businesses. The goal of this blog is to chronicle my continued marketing experiences. I focus on real examples of what works and what does not work. Google does not give us a recipe for getting our sites ranked. We have to use our own experiences to see what actually works rather than theory. I hope you enjoy the blog. Please let us know what you think in the comments area. We appreciate your feedback.
