Naughty Marketing Technique Combining Video And Facebook Marketing

I have not actually done this complete technique but I have tested the somewhat naughty part and it works. This is just something I am thinking about so I thought I would run it up the flag pole.

First set up a Fan Page with a very strong free giveaway offer in your niche. Include an opt in form to your newsletter with an email only submission. Make it good and in your Facebook settings choose to have your landing page be the default page people go to when the go to your Facebook account. Try to bring as much value as you can to the viewer.

Then make a simple short video pitching your free offer. Make sure to include a clear call to action to both visit your Fan Page and to click your like button. (I love the way Ryans Deiss’s page redirects to the download page after you like it. I have not learned how to do this yet. So much to learn.) If you do not have a vanity url from Facebook you can purchase a domain name just for your fan page offer. Make it something that you can just say and people will remember without having to spell it out. Put this url right in your video and tell viewers to go to your page and click your like button and join your newsletter to get the free offer.

Get an account with Contentbuzz.net. This service allows you to upload your video once and it sends it to about 30 video hosting sites as well as about 50 other social media and bookmarking sites. So each identity with Contentbuzz will send your video to about 80 social media and video outlets. You can create as many identities as you wish. It is very time efficient.

Create 10 identities with Contentbuzz. They have an automatic account registration tool but this still takes a some time.

Create a list of the top players in your niche. For this example we will use the internet marketing niche. Get a list of all the major internet marketing gurus. Now pick one, say Ryan Deiss.

Go to the Google keyword tool and get all the top keywords about Ryan Deiss and tag your video with these keywords. You have many options here. The idea is when people type in Ryan Deiss into YouTube or Google you want people to see your video. You could title your video to be a video response to his most popular video using a similar title. You could be more honest and title the video something like “Ryan Deiss is cool but my free offer is cooler! Check it out.” The idea is that you are catching the attention of people who are interested in a top figure in your industry and directing them to your offer in the same industry.

Now upload this video to Contentbuzz with your tags and title. Your video is now distributed to 80 social media channels and video sites with your specific tags.

Now make 50 slightly different copies of the same video. This is easy to do. You can just upload it to your editor like Camtasia and if you change anything, even just the length of the title at the end it is a unique video.

Now upload the same video again (slightly modified) to the same identity but tag it to a different guru. Do this for all 50 gurus. Now you have 50 unique videos, distributed to 80 outlets. That is 4000 outlets for your video with your targeted keywords directing people to your truly incredible free Fan Page offer that should specifically interest them because it is targeted to your industry.

Do this again with each of your 10 identities with Contentbuzz. So now you will have 40,000 outlets of your videos directing them to your Facebook Fanpage. Even if each video only get 10 views each, which is very realistic, that is 400,000 views to your videos all directing them to your Fan Page.

You do not have to target your video keywords to gurus or people. You can find the hottest topics in your industry or products in your industry and target your keywords around these.

Is this ethical? Maybe somewhat in the gray area. Google Adwords is now allowing people to use trade names as trigger keywords for their ads. Before they were limiting this. They seem to have given up on policing this issue. Should you have the right to review a public figure and profit from it? Basically this is the format of all review sites. They review popular products and services, attract attention based on the popularity of the names and monetize the traffic with ads.

I have had people target ads based on my websites. It does not bother me. It is actually flattering. My friend has created his own line of tour guide listening devices. He was in China and saw a tour group using a knock off version of his devices. He was thrilled! He had finally made it. He was good enough to be knocked off!

I suggest keeping it as positive as possible and make sure the offer is really good. This way when you “distract” your visitors from their original search they are pleasantly surprised. Remember, you are directing them to Facebook where they can make all kinds of comments. Keep them happy.

As for the media sites terms of services I am sure some will not like it. YouTube seems to have a pretty lose attitude now though. They are owned by Google and Google is allowing liberal use of this technique with Adwords. You just have to feel this one out. Every service is different and they can change at any time.

I have not done this technique completely yet but I think it could definitely work. Combining the free traffic from video and the viral possibilities of Facebook can be a potent combination.

I am just beginning with Facebook and I setup my first Fan Page just a few days ago. I would appreciate your input. What do you think?

Here is my Facebook Fan Page that I just set up. I purchased the domain “coomarketingsoftware.com” and I redirect it to the Fan Page. I believe you have to have at least 25 fans, friends before you can get your own vanity url with Facebook.
